25SW4P is a Kenyan social enterprise that promotes sustainable fashion through clothes swapping events and education. It is a woman-led organization focused on re-igniting conscious living by allowing people to exchange clothing and accessories they no longer use, thereby refreshing their wardrobes in an eco-friendly manner.

The organization was formed in 2021 by Founder, Mutete Bakhita. 25SW4P hosts vibrant, eco-conscious events where participants can swap clothes, accessories, to refresh their wardrobes ethically. They raise awareness about the social and environmental impacts of the textile and fashion industry, offering practical solutions for sustainable practices.

The organization creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for people from all walks of life to network, learn, and engage in thoughtful discussions about sustainability.

The core concept is to reduce textile waste by giving pre-loved clothes a new story instead of letting them end up in landfills.
25SW4P encourages a shift towards more mindful consumption and an understanding of the fashion industry’s effects. As an enterprise, they are dedicated to introducing sustainable fashion to the African continent and fostering a local sustainable community.

“My love for Mother Earth and constant appreciation of the synergy between all the life forms around us led to the birth of 25SW4P. I found a way, through clothes, to do my part in taking care of the earth that continues to take care of us. Not only do I get excited about the swap meets, but also about spreading knowledge about sustainable fashion. The swap meets are vibrant and  eco-conscious. Nestled in an inviting atmosphere, we ensure every participant feels celebrated and included from the moment they step in. Scheduled every last Saturday of the month, these swaps aren’t just about fashion, but they’re a movement. By championing the re-love and exchange of apparel, we’re taking bold strides against the environmental repercussions of the fast-fashion world, curbing waste, conserving resources, and leading the charge towards a greener, more stylish future. The clothes undergo a quality check process to ensure that swappers enjoy items, that are in good condition. “We check that the items don’t have broken zippers, dirt, sweat patches, tears and holes,” says Mutete.

25SW4P also host workshops designed to spark creativity and eco-consciousness. Their sessions offer a treasure trove of knowledge, where attendees can master the art of upcycling, transforming pre-loved items into treasures, and cherished possessions.

They also offer lessons about natural dyes and learning how to create a spectrum of colors from nature’s palette, and explore eco printing, a technique that captures the delicate beauty of leaves and flowers on fabric.

Mutete says each workshop is a step towards sustainable living, providing people with the skills to make eco-friendly choices. She says they are about learning, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
